I am looking for a wider-angle lens to be able to take more landscape and architectural photos. The one I am leaning towards is a 28-105mm. Can anyone tell me if this would be a good choice for these kind of shots? Thanks!

I think I would want to go a little wider; something like 17-40mm.

28 is the rough equivalent of a normal lens on digital. You want to look at some of the wide angle zooms made specifically for digital sensors. Besides Canon, you can find these from Tokina, Sigma and Tamron.

For wide-angle zooms, perhaps something like a 10-20mm or a 12-24mm. If that's a little too wide, consider one of the zooms starting at around 16mm. For primes, you could look at anything from about 14mm up to 24mm.

would prefer to keep it around $300.00. i'm still just mainly playing but the husband is mentioning that his friends are interested in tractor shoots-several lined up. and large family groups. thanks!
