I like to shoot cars, so usually that means the lens cap is off (otherwise, I might not be able to turn the camera on and rotate the lens into focus before it passed)............

Your camera won't turn on if the lens cap is on?

Lol, shoulda worded that differently. By the time I took the lens cap off, turned the camera on, and rotated the lens into focus, the car would probably be out of range. So yes, my D3300 will turn on with the lens cap on, but when I'm walking around looking for things to photograph, I leave the lens cap off.
