Here are a few crop shots I'll share. I am forcing myself to use LR only for faster workflow. I know how to do the basics in LR but always end up putting final touches on with CS6. So I'm forcing myself to finally learn to edit and repair in LR.

anyway, here are the crops to share. I can't share the whole image since there is boobs...but you can get the idea from the headshots anyway. I am finding I do less skin smoothing overall using LR as well, which is a good thing as I tend to go overboard often.

Too much on the whites of the eyes? at first I thought was fine....but looking back later I'm not sure. I like the iris, but the whites maybe too white...I dunno.

I like the vertical one, naturally the customer wants the horizontal one. lol. They always pick opposite of me it seems.

Whites of the eyes look fine to me, on the ipad anyway.

I know what you mean as far as time consumption for LR vs PS, when we export to PS we end up spending a ton of time on a photo...

LR isn't very good for retouching, you're better off sticking to PS for that.

i thinking a little bit of smoothing would benifit from this photo just to blend in the pores and makeup.

I usually agree....believe it or not...I did run portraiture on her even in LR on that shot. lol . rough face, in a nice way.

Had I done normal way in PS, then I'd get the "she looks plasticky" comments. lol

Good thing I don't PP to please TPF vs client. lol

I do prefer the plasticky look on some women...and tend to do it. Really depends on their skin tones/complexion.

I might run it through cs6 tomorrow using my normal process and see the difference side by side, then maybe meet in the middle somewhere.


also...I did find if you have to do a lot of retouching...LR really does suck for that...lack of control I get with cs6. On her belly where the tat is, there is lots of retouching needed in these shots as the light really cast shadows on the marks....and after I processed the tat for being more pronounced (saturation, clarity, contrast) the marks got more pronounced too. Normallly I'd just smooth it all over, but then if I do that the tat looses its detail...so I gotta do it manually. Kinda sucks.

I do 95% of my editing in LR. The adjustment brush has sooo many hidden wonders for retouching skin. I only go into PS if I have to.

Me too. I don't think the whites are too much in the eyes. I looked at them before reading them and didn't even notice.

It was a square 2 foot softbox. lol

quick update, above images look terrible in print. Gross.

Gotta re think the process. Def too much pores showing, even on 8x10 at viewing distance, you can count them.

So it needs more smoothing.

Eyes look decent enough at a viewing distance, but yucky up close.

well it kinda was....to leave in natural texture....but it's just not flattering at all.

That's a scary thought!!!!


Aside from cloning out zits, there's no control! There's a lousy clone tool and a skin softener that looks like G.I. Joe's dog sh*t. Any professional retoucher who takes their work seriously does everything in PS.
