what would you use to draw images for a long shutter in the dark?

I usually use a LED flashlight, they are nice and bright and produce a wonderful bright blue color. even an iphone would do if you have one and one of those apps that change the color of the screen.

flashlights of all different kinds. LED, incandescent..... from kids to flashlights to law enforcement type, battery operated, wind up, you name it. Cell phones, Timex indiglo watches, laptop computers, laser pointers, speed lights, glow sticks (from your friendly neighborhood dirty hippie festival)......

Pretty much anything that emits light. Use multiple sources for one exposure. Be creative. Everything is going to give off a diffrent temperature of light, which makes for some really neat effects.

Whilst you can't use it directly for painting, you can get some interesting ambient light at low shutters using your TV and a DVD or videogame.

I had fun using a torch for painting and BioShock on my TV for ambient light

you can get lasers on amazon that go up to miles.. its really cool drawing on the clouds! haha or building tops miles away!
