Spent some time at an indoor butterfly garden the other day. Seems a bit like cheating but even with them being contained indoors, they still move constantly and are difficult to capture. Here are some of my favorites. The rest are on my Flickr if you're interested.

Forgive me but I don't know all of the names...

Nice shots and cool variety. Not cheating, actually may be harder due to lighting conditions.

Nice, I can't decide on a favorite, because they all have their good points! I can sympathize with you on catching them setting still. I've been through the Butterfly Garden at the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga several times. They seem to be in constant movement!

I have you to thank for this visit. When I saw your recent butterfly photos it reminded me of the butterfly garden that I had taken my daughter's girl scout troop to a few years ago.

I thought the light was decent for mid day. My biggest issue was how hot it was in there. They keep it at 85 degrees. I had to leave a few times and go out into the air conditioned museum area. Each time I returned to the butterfly enclosure my lens would fog right up again.

I found out while I was there that for $4 above standard admission they offer access in the morning an hour before it's open to the public (9am) so if I ever plan another visit I'll take advantage of that. The place is open through 10/31 so I might make it back there again this year. It was a really enjoyable way to spend a few hours and so much different than my previous visit where I had a group of young girls with me! Also there are several farms in the area that will be beautiful to shoot in the morning when fall finally arrives.

I never did get a decent shot of the Blue Morphos - they were not feeding like the others so never landed anywhere except really high up on the wall and even then only for a few seconds. Another reason to go back!
