Thoughts? More DOF needed? Still getting used to and playing with this 50mm. Things look sharp on camera, and then at home they're not :/

Looks good, as you mentioned the spores in the middle could be a tad sharper, but overall it's good!

Is the background moving? Looks a little blurred.

Very nice; it might not hurt to turn that bit of red in the upper right-hand corner green just to reduce the distraction, but it's a nice shot. Also consider moving back a bit further to gain some DoF, and then cropping tight in post.

The petals look like they're floating maaaaaaan.... faaaaar ouuuuuuuuuut!

Here's an old, not that great illustration I did a while back for TPF. The upright stamens (???) are like the top of this cylinder in my illustration. The tops of them are not actually in the depth of field plane. When the camera back and lens are angled to the subject, then parts of the subject can actually fall ABOVE the DOF band.

At the distance and f/stop used,.there really is not a lot of DOF to play with and focusing and camera back angle in relation to the subject is critically important.

That must be one HELL of a fair, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan... :)

lol wow. Our local fairs are seriously lacking by comparison. lol
