These volunteers had just helped put out a fire in the house next door to mine. Our volunteer fire department is amazing. I was so shocked to see flames coming out of the roof, I didn't even think of taking a photo until it was pretty much out. My neighbors were away, and I smelled the smoke from my deck. At first I thought it was someone having the first fireplace fire of the season, but then I heard wood crackling and walked over to see what was going on. The fire departments (neighboring town's too) were there very quickly, but the house will have to be gutted. They do have adequate insurance to rebuild and no one was hurt. One fireman had to be treated for smoke inhalation.
