Long Exposures

I have taken long exposuers of of the nite sky, using a telescope mount. I use 100 and 200 speed film, and a manual Nikon camera. I now have a Kodak digital camera and wonder if it can be used for long exposures also? Thanks, John.

Thanks for your reply,It is Kodak CX6230, and has nite time setting for taking low light photos. But I don't see any way to keep the shutter open. John.

Looking at DPreview's site on the CX6230, it says the shutter speeds are between 1/1700 and 1/2 sec; hardly a "long" exposure... some newer compact digitals have exposure times of 15 or 30 seconds though.
