Long Shutter Cycle Nikon D3200

Maybe you have a lot of image-processing controls set...dynamic range optimizer, noise reduction come to mind. A two-button reset could set you back to normal.

This. Specifically, long exposure noise reduction is horrendous at this.

He didn't mention that he was taking long exposures, but he also didn't know how to set the shutter speed, it sounds like. Anyway, yes, by default, a 5-sceond exposure will lock the camera for 5 seconds while it takes a "dark" image, and anything that appears on the dark image is noise and digitally removed from the actual exposure. Unless he's gotten his shutter extraordinarily slow somehow, I'd doubt that long-eposure NR is the cause. Possible, though.
