I am looking for a good photography forum.

I am a beginner and I want to find a place where I can share my photos and have them critiqued. I want help from advanced photographers who can point me in the right direction and tell me what I need to work on.

Am i being stupid but you are posting on one. Post up some pictures and people will help you and point you in the right direction.

scroll all the way to the top of this page, on the top left corner is the name of the website you are currently on.

If you're asking if this is a good forum that might suit your needs, then yes, I believe it is. You have to have a pretty thick skin though, some of the comments you might see are less than tactful. If you are the kind of person that needs coddling, I doubt you'll appreciate this group of people. If, on the other hand, you're the type that can take harsh comments and extract the elements of truth and good advice from them, then welcome.

My biggest advice to you if you plan on sticking around:
  1. Read the manual before posting.
  2. Do a google search before posting.
  3. Read at least the first two pages of the beginners forum before posting
The reason I mentioned the last one is because first, it will give you a taste of the atmosphere around here, and second, chances are that many of the questions you have will already have been answered at least three times within those first two pages.

What happened to the days of lurking before posting?

:(

i hope this is not about attention cuz you are getting the wrong kind:meh:

This reminds me of the last scene from "Dumb and Dumber"

I check many every day to identify beginner questions that I want to answer. This is the best one. It is the most active and worth visiting. The others are rather dead. I was banned from one because of the following lurking types: (later reinstated but I told them to buzz off as I will not provide free advertisement/attraction for their core bunch of attack dog losers-I've never been back)

You will find that the various forums have a noticeable population that lurks there for apparently one reason. To act all pompous and judgmental. It happens in all areas of life. So be prepared to have some regulars pounce for no other reason to ridicule and chastise you. They will whine about the poster, what was posted and how it was posted. Not much in the way of photography commentary just one liner nonsense (frequent lurker on this forum) or whining (not real bad on this forum). They also don't like the sacred cows to be challenged and will be outraged. And they like to be flattered and play kissy face with each other. That is they tell each other how wonderful it/they/? was. Pay attention you will notice this crowd in short order. Never the less this forum is the best to visit. It is not as bad as some. The worst one is on life support hardly ever is there a new post it seems.

Then again I'm not timid and I tell them to knock it off. The timid get beat down

You should really try The Photo Forum

Its a pretty good site, I am still to scared to make my first post, so I just lurk around in there for all the useful information.
