Looking for a good versatile camera bag.

I am looking for a good camera bag for travel and as a shooting platform for events. I want to be able to carry my T3i w/ battery grip, mounted to a 17-55mm f/2.8 lens. but I also would like room for a 70-200mm f/4 and a speedlite or two. I would like the bag to be able to carry a 300mm f/4 by leaving the speedlites out.

The two bags that I am most interested in are the Think Tank Speed Freak and Speed Racer. I'm not sure if the Speed freak is big enough for 2 "L" glass lenses and a pro-body sized camera or not. I'm pretty sure the Speed Racer is but I don't want to buy to large of a bag, if I don't need it.

Anyone have any experience with Think Tank? Or should I be considering other options?

I love my Domke F2, and it holds a lot. A couple lenses and a body, easily.

Measure the T3i and the 300/4 mounted and see what that'll be like. I actually use Canon's 70-200/2.8 white nylon zippered cae, or the Nikon 300/4 ballistic nylon case as a way to carry a 70-200 or 300 over-the-shoulder with smaller stuff inside a bag. I have a Domke canvas messenger-type bag I shoot out of lately....holds a LOT of stuff...it's slender, but man...it expands!!! Can cary a big body with built-in grip with a 70-200/2.8 and shade reversed, an 85, 50,24/35, SB-800, polarizers, batteries, and a second body, capped, easy. If I mount a small lens, I can carry the 300 f/4 + the 70/200 "upright" inside, and the D3x riding off to the side, baseplate riding along the 300's barrel.

There are lots of options, Domke, Tamrac, LowePro, but... for my money, you just cannot beat ThinkTank; their gear is well designed, sensible, and superbly built. My ThinkTank "Airport International" is my daily driver bag, has been through a LOT and still functions perfectly.

Yeah I have the sand one. Definitely a great bag, build quality is excellent, and it looks really nice too.

Is it very waterproof? I get caught in the rain a lot here.

I have researched Think Tank a bunch on youtube. The Speed series is where I'm leaning. but of all the reviews (of people who have actually used them), no one has 2 large lenses in the speed freak. So I can't determine if it's big enough or not. I love their attached rain hood for everything they sell! That is a HUGE plus for me. Build quality seems to be outstanding as well. They are a bit pricey though... but as long as they are worth the extra expense, I don't mind paying it.

For versatile I really like the Tamrac bags myself - with their MAS system you can get external pouches/cases that will attach to the bag or to a belt, makes the entire thing very versatile, I can pretty much customize it to whatever I need just by adding an external lens case or pouch in addition to the internal storage.

Bumping this because I'd like to get a backpack to replace my shoulder bag (LowePro Nova AW 200). Any recommendations? I need it to carry a camera with lens attached, 3 additional lenses, and a speedlight.

I just don't like my shoulder bag anymore because it gets heavy after a while and I find myself switching positions with it every 10 minutes.

e - I'd like something that's not too bulky (thin) and heavy.

I just bought the Ape Case AC Pro 2000 backpack. I love it. It's probably the best backpack I've owned and has tons of room.
