What's new

Looking for an SD card? This should last ya

Supposed to get up to 2TB if I recall correctly...

Yeah it says: "We're still a long ways from the 2TB SDXC cards we were promised."

Capacity is one thing, reliability is another. I would feel uncomfortable with putting a lot of un-backed up images on a card - just because "stuff happens". I've already had cards with corrupted (on the card) images. While I did not lose too much, as I tend to shoot a number of variations on a shot, it still reminded me that I need to move the newly acquired images to a more reliable medium asap, preferably at the end of each day. I am currently using 8GB SD cards that give me the capacity to shoot a little over 260 RAW+JPG images, and I have four such cards with me at all times.

I have the same feeling about computer hard drives. It's really nice to have all that extra capacity, but the risk is that you lose a huge amount of data when those drives go bad. So having the capacity is wonderful as long as the users practice good backup procedures to allow them to recover from any loss of a single device.

I'm Looking at getting a wireless transmitter. but right now.i think it would be pointless.
I still wouldnt spend $700 on an Sd card.I'd rather have two or three 16gb's for a fraction of the cost:)

That's what I loved about my D300s and now my D7000, dual card slots. I can have instant backups if I want. I used to fear large cards for the reasons you mention, but not as much now.

Pretty sure this is for those that shoot 4k and 5k video like on the RED Epic cameras.

Also, only newer cameras will accept SDXC format.

I have a 8gb Sandisk Extreme III 30mb/s in slot A and a 32gb Toshiba Class 4 in slot B for the extra space if needed.

I wont shoot anything higher that 4gb. I have five 4gb Sandisk ultra cards.

Like others have said, I don't like having all my eggs in one basket.

Also, it's nice to be able to put one full card on one DVD. With larger cards, you have to spilt it up.

Since I got my D300s, I do have a CF 16gb card that I have set to make instant backups. Once I get the sd card backed on DVD, I format the CF card.
