Looking for tripod advice

I am brand new to this and have the canon xti...looking for a good tripod, something easy to get around but nice and sturdy. It is impossible to get out and see any except online...I live in the far north arctic and was looking for some input

Chinese-made Benro (not Benbo) tripods are now available from B&H (www.bhphoto.com), as are Induro tripods, which come from the same factory, I think. These are good copies of more expensive brands like Gitzo. If they are within your budget, I suggest having a look at their carbon fibre lines.
