I think that technically the studios lose money, if anyone does. The Waschowskis probably do pretty well, financially, and are probably having an excellent time.

Just because somebody loses money is no reason to stop trying to make money.

If the studio can keep financing them, then what's the big deal?

Even while losing money, they will still get SOMEBODY's money.

And by my calculations, based solely on movies directed, they're still a few hundred million bucks ahead, not including DVD and other post-box-office monies.

Let me repeat that: a few HUNDRED MILLION BUCKS ahead

When someone makes you a couple hundred million bucks, you're probably pretty smart to give them a few more at-bats before you send them back to the minors.
