AI Created video presentations on YouTube and elsewhere

Fake YouTube videos: I watch YouTube videos on all sorts of subjects. What seems to be happening is that "creators" are posting their presentations on different subjects using AI-created fake videos of real people describing the topic. Their voices and images of the presenters look and sound like the live person. I am no longer sure which video is from the original, real-life person, so I'm distrusting everything I watch. What has been your experience? Is this even legal?

I get the "Reels" in my FB and IG feeds. Some are vary obviously manufactured while others are suspect. Sometimes there will be "AI" in the keywords. As far as the other, who knows. If the creators are at least partly honest, they would do the same.

As far as legality, that will be decided in the courts at some point.

My experience has been to avoid anything that can't be verified as non-AI. AI apparently rips off content from actual creators, and I've read about an increase in litigation trying to prove it, and reclaim copyright. It's a mess out there, no doubt!

I watch only 3 YT channels and they are not AI.

The Reels on FB and IG are flooded with the AI videos. I wish it was clearly labeled AI. The other pet peeve are videos presented as real when they are a skit.

You can tell if they talk a while. I saw one that makes many YouTube videos using political pundit George Will likeness and voice. 5-10 seconds would fool you, but after a minute it was obvious George could never keep up that pace of commentary. I blocked that channel and reported it. If a talker drones on and on, its AI.

In the fake YouTubes often speaker's hands are moving too much or they'll say a date 1932 like this. one nine hundred three two instead of nineteen hundred and thirty two.

The AI is getting better quickly. They have the voice imitations spot on, but rhythm over time is still not human. Probably by next year we won't be able to tell.

I try to stay away from everything that looks remotely AI and creators/accounts that clearly use AI but never label it as such. I wonder if that's legal as well, especially when the content is generated basing on real people with their real voices, but platforms don't seem to care even if it's not. I'm no stranger to video presentations myself and I love posting Smartshow 3d slideshows of photos I took while on vacation or visiting a new place, but use AI for that? No thanks, I'd rather use my own skills or learn how to do something if I don't have the knowledge right now.
