macro mode

i was trying to take a picture of a bug the other day using the macro mode setting on my camera, but it wouldn't focus and get sharp enough to take a good picture. any thoughts as to what my problem might be?

Your lens. Not all lenses can focus close.

Your camera/lens will have a minimum focus distance...both in regular mode and a shorter one in macro mode. While in macro mode, you will likely have a maximum focus distance as well. So you need to be within that range. Try moving the camera back and forth until you find that zone.
