macro shots w canon s70

Hi. I'm new to this forum and photography in general and i question about focusing with the canon s70 for macro shots. From what i've read to take macro shots i just put it on the macro setting and it should auto focus for me, but whenever i try to auto focus by pushing the shutter button down half way it sort of focuses for a second then goes out of focus once again. When i try and take the picture it just takes a fuzzy out of focus picture. The only way i can take a decent macro photo is by manual focusing each shot. Is this the way it should be or am i doing something wrong or what? It's quite frustrating to have to manual focus down from infinity each time. Any comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It sounds like your camera is having trouble auto-focussing on the object. I'm not familiar with this model's focussing methods, but perhaps there's a way to change it to spot-focus on the object? What does it say in the manual about macro shots?
