Looking for a macro lens for my Canon EOS 1000D, found a few but just wondering if anyone has any good suggestions?
budget is £320, not exactly a massive budget but ohhhh well. Would be much appreciated if anyone could make any suggestions:D

Those that fit (when new) closest to your budget would be (in order of least expensive first)
Tamron 90mm macro Tamron 90mm Di Macro 1:1 f2.8 Lens from £334.14, UK Specialist Price Comparison Site, Camera Price Buster
Tokina 100mm macro Tokina 100mm f2.8 AT-X PRO Macro from £374.99, UK Specialist Price Comparison Site, Camera Price Buster
Canon EFS 60mm macro Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 Macro USM Lens from £344.33, UK Specialist Price Comparison Site, Camera Price Buster
Sigma 70mm macro Sigma 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Lens from £349.00, UK Specialist Price Comparison Site, Camera Price Buster

You've not stated your intended use for the lens, however the Tamron or Tokina options would be good choices for someone with an interest insects since they give a longer working distance (distance from lens to subject) based upon their longer focal lengths. Image quality wise they are all on a pretty even footing (even with the more expensive options not listed) so image quality wise there really isn't much of a problem with whichever you choose.
The Af on these will be slower than regular lenses somewhat, but that is a property of pretty much all macro lenses (only canon 100mm and 100m L would get a speed boost) and not a limitation for macro work (which is done almost all in manual mode).

The Tamron 90mm macro is a very popular budget macro lens choice.

I have the tamron and LOVE it. It takes kick arse portrait photos too!

I would go with the Tokina. It's a great lens, and the focal length is perfect for a beginner.

Something to consider. You don't list what lenses you currently own. If you are not sure if Macro is something that you will end up doing you could also consider extension tubes. They are less expensive, have no elements themselves and work well with most lenses. The linked tubes are Kenko, well thought of, 110.00 pounds, and if you do later decide to get a dedicated macro lens, you can even use them with the macro lens for closer than 1to1.

Tamron 90 2.8 is my choice, this has to be the best lens I have ever bought! The only flaw with it is average build quality, the performance is up there with any Canon L lens or Nikon pro lens in my mind. Simply incredible for the price you pay, it cost me a measly £190.

Just bought a Tamron 90 mm DI macro. On eBay $300. Should be here tomorrow. Will let you guys know how it performs. RFT

I picked up a very lightly used Tamron 90mm Macro for $300. It is an amazing lens and since the front element is slightly recessed it has a built in lens hood of sorts.

Wow seems everyone has sense on this forum! Sharp, great colour and amazing contrast and BOKEH! Did I mention Bokeh??

The Tamron 90 2.8 has to be one of the best lenses I have ever come across! Enjoy your purchases guys, I sure am!
