I'm not really a fan of the first, there's a bit too much white on the edges for me and I think I'd have preferred to see a smoother transition. I can understand why the mom likes it though. That second one is a corner though, really very nice!

Do you live on a Russian farm?

I don't think Talbot will ever be mistaken for a Russian farm. But as in that (and this) case, images aren't necessarily literal representations of reality. However it takes a skilled artist to make the blend look realistic (to most eyes).
