Hi all,

I try to find a way to make glass & chrome jump out I over did it here in this example:

It's not jumping out for me. I see your shallow DOF, is that what you meant?

Too many gray's across the spectrum of this image. you should try shooting against a background that will give your subjects more contrast and thus stand out more prominently.

I would put some sort of backdrop behind to makes the background less distracting.

But the background adds some context. Proper lighting would make that glass sing!

I'm noob. So, how does one use lighting on a subject where light just passes through it? Maybe, use a large reflector so it can generate a large reflection on the glass?

Think about the properties of glass, and how it carries light (fiber optics), reflection, and refraction. How can that be used to highlight edges, and define the shape?
Science!

You can also control the background by lighting the foreground.

By the way, the chapter of the book describing how to light glass (black or white background) is the most intricate but also the most intriguing. Nice reading. I did not yet tried the exercise, but in exchange I stopped shooting glasses at random :) . OP: there is also a chapter for metals ;) .
