minimum and maximum working temperature for digital cameras?

Following my previous question-topic about getting a styrofoam cooler with a camera inside into the stratosphere with a special helium balloon ( http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/aviation/diy-flying/how-to-launch-a-camera-into-space ), I guess I should make a specific question which camera users here are more likely to know.

There is going to be a hole in the styrofoam box from which the camera will see through. At the highest point the temperature can get around -51C. Will the camera lens be fine at that temperature, or should i think of some extra protection? i see no mention of this in the articles people posted who have done this.

I understand this might vary from camera to camera, but I think you guys can make an educated guess.

Check the camera specs at the manufacturer's website.

I've read where some people use those chemical hand-warmers made for hunters & campers.

Glass is glass - the lens elements should be fine. The question is the electronics, focus motors and I'd worry about the air pressure difference between the inside and outside of the camera body and also the lens.

Cameras and lenses aren't hermetically sealed. Any gradual change is air pressure will easily find it's way in or out.
