I havent posted in awhile life has decided to take me on a roller coaster ride Here are a few pictures I took over the weekend. It was very challenging . Taking pictures of a very active 18 month old wore me out lol .

I'm not gonna go THAT far, but #1 does look overfilled to me. There's a harsh shadow under mom's chin, and the light doesn't look natural. A little less power on the fill flash, and use a diffusor of some sort.

The second one's cute as anything! I like it quite a lot. The buildings behind are a little distracting, but not bad.

So THAT's how you get those pictures of Sasquatch that can't be identified. I've been standing out in the woods with my OCF trying to get him to pose for me. Dang it.

The problem is that Saquatch only thinks he looks good with short loop lighting, and everyone gets the beauty dishes too low.

I too prefer the second to the first. The flash is just a bit too much, and the straight on shot is just... blah. The expression you caught in the second is really nice, very innocent and childlike.

I agree with the previous posters - #2 is ridiculously cute. The buidlings arent distracting to me, in fact I didnt see them until someone mentioned it.

#1 seems like the light is too harsh, but Im not sure just reducing the fill would fix it. Theres a lot of light on the building in the back which I think would be even more distracting if you fixed the fill light issue.

Either way - great job with both.

Thanks for all the replies and I appreciate it but sometimes the critiques get to be alittle insulting. Im working hard at learning fill flash and had every intention of using flash off camera but i dropped my transmitter and it broke into a million pieces as soon as I arrived .

tirediron's just kind of a jerk! (no, he's not). I apologize, we no doubt came off a little abrupt, and I know that I for one derailed the conversation a fair bit.

These are fine efforts as part of the learning process, and really not all that bad. You can do better, and you will!

Shift happens

I know sometimes the replies can feel a little insulting, but just take them with a grain of salt. These are constructive critiques at least...Probably all of these people (including me!) have gone through the same troubles with external flash. Believe me, it can get a lot worse.

Do you ever work with reflectors? That's an easy way to get fill (not saying to give up on flash, just an alternative) and it's much less harsh.
