Missed the sunset so this was the best i got.

I was planning to take a photo in the sunset with the city lights in the back but my friend and I lagged so I didn't get any shots I really liked but we took a picture anyways. This is what I got. I would like some C&C.

I think it's a pretty good photo - the light on the guy and the background city lights all looks good, the only thing that I would have done different was have the cigarette that I assume he is smoking to be visible. It kind comes off a bit oddly with the smoke hanging there in the air and no obvious source. Of course that may have been your intention, but that's my take on it anyway.

Also, just looking at your exif data, it would have better if you were able to open the lens aperture up more (you were at f/5 @ 32mm and 1/15) which would have rendered the out of focus background as larger and blurrier, as well as upping your shutter speed - there does appear to be a tiny bit of shake going on with the background lights.

Thanks yeah I should have tried different apertures and probably put the camera on a tripod instead of hand holding it. Anyways I'm just learning how to work with lighting. I'll try a bunch of diff settings next time i go out. Hopefully next time I can catch sunset. I have a photo with the cigarette but for some reason I like this shot when you can't see it and he looks like he doesn't know where it came from in this photo haha.

A reflector behind him would have helped.

I would have moved the camera while shooting. It will create motion blur on the lights but your subject will be sharp.
