Mockingbird Sun--Nikon's 85mm is Impressive!

I've just not been too impressed with the performance of the 1.8D...

Gotcha well the G version serves me well. Although, I don't use it as much anymore lol.

I was looking at picking up a 17-50 F/2.8 Zoom lens earlier, but I'm seriously thinking about maybe just getting the 35 mm prime now, and an 11-17 after I upgrade to either a D7100 or D7200. I'm waiting for the D7200 to come out probably sometime in the fall before I upgrade the body, and I know I'm going to be wanting an 11-17 at that point. I've had such good results with my other two primes, both the 50 and the 85, that I'm thinking maybe the 35 will suit my needs better for a wide angle at least for now. It's not quite as wide as I would like, but the 28 is pretty pricey in comparison and so is the 17-50, and honestly it's just not something I'm going to be using a whole ton. The odd car show or landscape here and there - so I think I can probably get by fine with the 35mm prime.

Yup.. going to have to give it a bit more thought I think. Oh well, back to tripod shopping.. lol

I love my sigma 17-50 2.8OS. Not too expensive, and a really solid performer. I have great success with it.

I've been kind of going back and forth on that one quite a bit. I really don't shoot that much in that focal range, and it's going to be probably my last lens purchase until the fall. I've had great success with both of my prime lenses and I know that once I do upgrade the body I'll be getting an 11-17. I guess I'm just thinking that for me an 11-17, a 35, 50, 85 and then the 70-200 pretty much should cover me in almost any shooting situation I'm likely to find myself in at least in the foreseeable future.

The 17-50 would certainly be more versatile than the prime but since I really don't shoot much at those ranges I'm just not sure how much of an advantage that would really be for me at least. So yup, still kind of on the fence about that one.
