I took this with an on camera flash bouncing off the wall with a sheet behind me. What do I need to improve here? I am literally winging it. I don't have any real direction.
But I could certainly use some. By the way, I don't ever plan modeling. I have the face for radio lol. I was just messing around. I don't have any intention of doing a photoshoot or anything.
This is just for fun, but I'd like to achieve a professional look.

1. Get a better looking model.
2. I'd get some more light on the the black clothing to try to create some definition.

My humble opinion... :D

Haha yeah... I told you I wasn't pretty.

Yo your humble opinion makes you look like an a-hole when the guy was clearly modest and was asking for advice from a purely photographic standpoint. My advice to OP. Look at some martial arts portraiture. Study the details of the images that appeal to you. Then, through trial and error, do your best to recreate the image.

1. Vtec is NOT the @$$hole kind.

I'm fairly certain that anyone with a sense of humor can see he was joking.

2. Ballistics has a sense of humor.

So I'm pretty sure he got that Vtec was being silly.

sarcasm or not, which is often impossible to tell through written medium, the comment lacks taste. OP doesn't deserve to be made fun of in any way sarcasm or not when he's asking for photography advice, ESPECIALLY when he is modest and to the point as he is here.

I think these two are MUCH more familiar with each other than you are with either of them. :sillysmi:

But good job trying to be the good... uh... the TPF defender? I dunno. I'm not good with these nicknames. Pick a nice one out for yourself and let me know what you went with.

And SINCE I'm here... Ballistics, it looks to me like you cut yourself out of the background of something. I know that you were up against white, but there's no gradient of light or anything... no tonal changes... it just looks like a cutout to me, haha.

I don't know if that's what you were going for or not, but that's the first thing I thought.

Who's friends, and who isn't I don't really care about e.Rose. Thats beside the point. So you can leave your condescending attitude at the door. This is a public forum and anything posted is subject to various interpretations. Knowing that they had some sort of previous relationship that warrants such sarcasm and jabs obviously nulls my original intent to protect OP from distasteful feedback.

I'm pretty sure the fact that Ballistics responded with "Haha yeah... I told you I wasn't pretty" took care of that before I even came around to this thread. There is a LOT of joking and sarcasm floating around this forum between members that know each other well and that barely know each other but are able to stay on their toes... brace yourself.

I think the black garment needs more detail showing...it looks pretty dark and featureless as lighted. A little bit less head tilt, and your shoulders more-squared to the camera would make you look bigger, tougher, and more masculine. The current degree of body and shoulder angle is just a little bit too much. Self-portraiture is very difficult.

Dang, so much for trying to be funny. :o

Rotanimod, welcome to the Internet! This place is serious. :D

E.rose, I heart you. That's all.

Let's put it this way. I would do the same for you if the roles were switched and OP made that comment toward you.
Since it is often impossible to "read" sarcasm sometimes "trying to be funny" can be misconstrued.

I think we're all adults and capable of speaking for ourselves, but thank you.
