The lighting itself isn't bad at all, but the colour looks about 1/2 stop under exposed and the monochrome 2/3 - 1 stop under.

I'm with tirediron here, it's underexposed. I do like the lighting.
I'm not sure about the square crop for number one, but that's your decision to make!

Bump up the exposure a bit.
As for the framing, the "just the head" composition isn't sitting right with me for this subject. I think it would be nicer with a vertical crop showing the kid from head to toe in her winter get up.
