Well detailed shots. The only thing I'd change is the composition but not everyone will see it the same way. They're a bit central in the frame for me.

Even though you can't see it in the shots, I believe there are two eyes making it a bicyclops.

I always try to do the 3rds rule if I can but I zoomed in fairly close on this one to get better detail for a change which didn't leave much room to the sides or anywhere else. I get what you're saying and I tried to put it to the left and leave room in front as it should've been but it looked wonky/unbalanced and worse than it being central. I appreciate you mentioning that tho, it lets me know I'm not alone in how I view pics.

I'm not an advocate of the 'rule of thirds' hard and fast per se albeit, it is a starting point for decent composition. However, the way I describe it is that there should be more space to the edge of the frame towards which the subject is facing, walking, looking, running, swimming etc etc. I see so many pictures, particularly of wildlife where just a bit more consideration for such composition would elevate them from average to good, great or better. Just my views like.

We're on the same page, I feel the same way and giving space is usually what I do. Here's one of the original pics. Not a lot of room in front of it but still, maybe better than centering it if space is what you have in mind. It was one way or the other and I favored the detail over the space with this particular pic because I seldom get good detail on feathers like that. Have a good one!
