Moon @ 1000mm..

F12.6 may be your issue. 12.6? wtf?

What kind of lens is that?

Anyway, shooting closer to wide open might help? Less refraction around the blades? Just a thought.

Obviously you haven't read the whole thread.

The lens is the Bigma, Sigma 50-500mm f/4-6.3 EX DG HSM , I'm using it with a ec 20 teleconverter which is a X2. This combination wide open is f 12.6.

The reason I'm doing this is because I have read it is difficult to get good results with this combination

Obviously you missed the part in my profile where it says, "No, I read your whole thread, I just skipped the parts with any real data in them, because thats the way I roll."

:P

Actually, I didn't know the teleconverters had that effect. Interesting.

This isn't necessarily true of all lenses, for instance, I did not notice any IQ or resolution degredation with the Zuiko Digital 50-200mm.

I'm not done testing yet but I'm not sure I'll get much better results With the 2x teleconverter than this, shot in manual, 1/100, iso 100, two second mirror lockup, wireless shutter release, Slick Pro 700 DX tripod, Jobu Jr 2 gimbal head.

i love the second shoot! shows great details of the moon. very nice shot@!

Don, I'm not familiar with the EC 20 but it's been my experience that in any setup the teleconverter is usually the weakest link. I'd be curious to compare the results of a shot without the TC @1000mm and then cropped to the same size.

The ec 20 is a x2 teleconverter to arrive at 1000mm or 2000mm in 35mm equivalency. I also have read this combo with the Sigma lens is difficult to achieve good results, hence the tests :)

Basically I'm working through anti shake techniques and soon will abandon the converter and work on finding the lenses sweet spot, supposedly it's 400mm and at that the improved resolution will allow cropping to the same size image.

To be clear, I have found the teleconverter's, both the 1.4 and the 2 on Zuiko Digital lens Do Not degrade the IQ to any significant amount, they do reduce the light available by several stops though...

Okay, last one :sexywink:

The raw image files from the Bigma lens are totally different to process than a Zuiko Digital lens file.

Shutter priority, 1/160, +1 ev, iso 100, f 12.6 (wide open). In Studio small crop, noise filter to high, convert to jpeg.

In Elements 7 some lighting, brightness, contrast adjustments. Ran it through Noiseware and sharpened +1 in FastStone Image Viewer.
