70+ photos and this is what I came up with  oh well. This is a baby moose and her mom.

That's some large critters!

I hope you were far away and used a long lens! I hear mama moose can get quite rampage-y even more violently than mama bears. I do love a moose, though. They're so funny looking :)

I really like the first shot and the eye contact in the third.

Thanks. I set the focus on their eyes in each shot that I could. And I was a bit closer then I like - I kept looking at the mother moose's ears to gauge if she had enough of me but both of them were calm throughout the whole shoot. You definitely have to be careful around these big guys.

#3 FTW! great shot!

Depending on how close you were, I can understand why you only ended up with 3 to post. I would have been shaking like crazy at any distance "a bit closer than I like".

What lens were you using?

Canon 70-200 F4L. I was limited to where I could move (safely) and it was hard to get shots that didnt have branches in the way.
I'm still learning. And I appreciate the feedback. I thought #3 was a bad shot because of that branch that covers the mother moose's face a bit and #2 was the better shot because it was framed with the pines.

We tend to get picky about branches and twigs when getting wildlife shots. You should be proud of these; especially since you got that close with that lens and you were not harmed :D.
Some twigs can be removed easier than others with software. Sometimes it's not worth the hassle or time.

I love the first shot. Theres just something about a stretching sleepy baby!

Nice shots. I spent the summer of 1998 in Fairbanks and quickly learned to keep my distance. The church I was working at was on McCullam and Moore (definitely not out of town, even then). The winter before, our pastor had been chased down the street when a moose stepped out of the trees along the street there. I only needed it explained once.

Not bad.
It's not that easy to get great shots of Moose in the winter ... they are usually foraging in the woods or finding a nice salty pool by the side of the road.

We get lots of tourists up here at Algonquin Park just looking for Road Moose, and they get really blind about the fact the Moose is about 10x bigger than they are ... I've seen a P&S Tourist try to walk right up to a mother and kid Moose ... others were telling them that it is not a good idea.
