I'm seeing these on a crappy comp at work so don't mind me, but have you done anything in the area of his left shoulder? I'm seeing some strange blob of pixels there

Thanks! No, no work there, that's just artifacting from the cheap and cheerful image resizer I used to bring these down to posting size.

Man, the first one makes me feel kind of sad and wistful when I see it. He looks so...elderly...makes me wonder what he must have been like back in the day.

Yeah - a really nice gentleman. A little shaky on his feet, but he gets around. That's what I've found to be the best part of this project since I started it, is talking to people like him. There are some absolutely amazing stories these folks have to tell!

Very nice stuff, John! I sure wish I had a photo like that of my dad; but even if I'd been capable of taking it while he was alive, Dad was a very unsentimental sort when it came to belongings, so he didn't keep his uniform, any insignia, nothing that I've found.

Still, I look at that first photo and I see my dad--granted my dad looked a bit more like Einstein, with a LOT of wild, white hair and incredibly bushy, uncontrollable eyebrows (which, sadly, I've inherited, lol) but pictures like this still evoke that image of my own dad.

There's an old African saying, "When an old man dies, an entire library goes up in flames." Just imagine all the stories these men have to tell!
