i just take the lid off and keep the room dark, then usually darken it a bit in photoshop because sometimes its a bit uneven or grainy

Cool idea.
Actually, come to think of it, is is almost dark outside, with the blinds drawn and all the lights out, I should be able to try after you and do my first scannogramme, too, but of what? Of WHAT!?!?!?!

yes, it is a lens, its my new 10-20 that i havent been able to try out yet because my camera is in connecticut being fixed. try using flowers still on the stem with leaves and such, just play around with it and scan scan scan. and natalie- thanks, and its windex. i had to put white paper behind the bottle when i scanned it because it was still looking pretty black, i just erased the paper around the bottle

and yet everything is in focus despite the shallow DOF. Amazing glass indeed.

Seriously though ,you don't have your camera and you still find a way to express photography. What will you do if they take your scanner? Draw?

oh btw, the lens shot rocks. It almost looks like it could be the cover to a lens buying guide or an ad for that lens.

thanks, i really liked how it turned out. i'd like to try to take a picture of the lens with a camera attached to it to see how that would turn out. Just so everyone knows, i used a fairly cheap scanner, so if you have a really nice one, this will work even better. My scanner is a few years old, and still worked ok. for more info on this technique, check popphoto.com in their how-to section or the june issue of the magazine has an article about it. thanks everyone for your comments so far, and everyone else, keep em' comming!
