I took these photos of my beautiful mum before she went out Feedback appreciated !

Not a bad start, but the flash seems a little hot and the lighting is overall rather flat. Try dropping the output a bit, and moving the flash up and to one side and adding a diffuser of some sort.

Yeah, lighting is quite harsh. I tend to prefer shooting in natural light because learning how to take good pictures with out a flash is tricky enough. Mastering the lighting issue is a whole other thing.
