What's new

My first shoot

As long as they are interesting to you, it was a success thats the point in photography its art that you create on your own. But from here on out, your going to learn greatly just by posting here and well using your camera. I can remember when I first started I didn't know anything, so much has changed since then.

Just somewhat let you camera do the thinking from now on until you get a better idea of what everything does you will get much better results. And if you get brave, drop it into (A) or (S) mode, so you can adjust one of the exposure factors and experiment your camera will compensate and adjust the others. Good luck!

Next time take a couple of the pictures you like and post them but tell us what YOU saw in the picture that interested you. These are all very snappy shotty but who cares. We all start somewhere. Don't be afraid to post because you are new and unsure. The best way to grow is through learning. And you seem to have a great attitude about receiving critique so keep on posting. Most importantly have fun. If your not having fun your doing it wrong.

I agree, they're all rather boring. Nothing caught my eye, and they're quite flat. :\

I probably shouldn't have posted anything until I know more what I'm doing.

As long as you can endure c&c it is valuable to post. You just need some comments on how to approach the subjects next time. Winter is a very dead time, so I find it is best to shoot when you have nice light play. Early morning and early evening provide long shadows and interesting patterns in the snow. Try to get out at a time when it is not so grey. Look for that play of light that will add visual interest to your compositions.

Your ice shots can be pretty cool. I find ice is best with an increased black level to bring out more contrast and make it look glassy. The edit has a black level adjustment and sharpening applied. While your exposure is probably correct, the tweak adds detail and interest to the ice.

Original

Edit

I think the original is better. No offense. Your blacks have no detail left and the sharpening has created a halo effect in some spots.

A little more contrast in the original image and perhaps a more interesting crop would have done added some interest.
This is a silk purse from a sow's ear though :)

Keep taking photos! This is a useful first attempt. Kudos for posting them too!
