To recap, my first and only sighting and capture of an oriole was in 2009, sigh...

Then this little beauty showed up four days ago

I was concerned they would continue on their way before I could get set up with some grape jelly but yesterday morning I was up at 6:30 and had barely sat down on the couch when this specimen arrived.

It spent the better part of five minutes sipping from the feeder and then had a little snack of suet...

It was later in the day before I could find the time to wire an 8' length of poplar branch to the pipe that holds up my hummingbird feeder and cut a jelly container out of an old pill bottle. Within an hour I had a visitor.

They really do like their grape jelly :D

It has been four days at this point so I am optimistic they will stay awhile !

And it only gets better John !

I had a female arrive this morning...

I sure hope there is some (cough/cough) nest building going on :)

Sorry I missed your thread Bill,

Here you've been wondering all this time :)

Cheers, Don

Great shots! But now I'm wondering how many other birds like grape jelly.

Thanks Brian..

Out of all my regular local birds apparantly they are the only ones interested :)

I've seen chickadees, finches, sparrows, woodpeckers and hummingbirds land close to the container and totally ignore it...

There isn't much in the way of fruit for miles and I think I got lucky that they stumbled upon my hummingbird feeder and I managed to get the jelly out quick enough that they may stay.

Great shots and a nice story to go with these. Thanks!

Thank You !

Cheers, Don

If they could only tell me what they need, I'd provide it :)

Cheers, Don

They seem to be attracted to orange colored nectar feeders. Also, if they are going to build a nest, they will be looking for strings. Hang strings of various colors and lengths on fences, shrubs, etc.

Yay! I'm so glad the jelly worked Don! Great shots and looking forward to more :)
