Yep, Cedar Waxwings....beautiful birds!

Photographing Hummingbirds is fun and frustrating at times! I usually just "camp out" by the feeder, with tripod in hand. This shot I set up a small studio. Can't find the picture of the set-up right now. I used an old blanket as a background because the back of my house isn't very photogenic! I was using a small waterfall and feeder to attract my Hummingbirds.

wow not only the most beautiful hummer photo i have seen so far but the hummer is gorgeous.. never saw one with these colors.. thanks so much for sharing.. i can only dream someday of capturing a pic close to this one.. awesome..!!!

Thanks! Actually the Black-chinned Hummingbirds are the LEAST colorful Hummingbirds here. Just a small band of purple.

I found a snapshot of my "studio". I was trying for a shot of the Hummingbird bathing. I saw a photo from FM a few years ago and I wanted to try it. My Hummingbirds never took a bath, but I got a few shots just the same.

I also set up a backyard habitat using the same pump shown in the picture above.

Shutter speed 1/250 at 270mm is a no no, way too slow

i was experimenting and ended up all over the place after awhile.. How would you set the settings for this type of pic.. my photos are all different.. and so far not satisfactory.. i was having trouble overriding the shutter speed to the program the camera set for me.. even though i thought i was setting it all individually.. i am still learning.. thanks..

I would use a similar setup to mike but would add off camera flash or studio flash, and would always be using manual settings, not that i will ever get the chance to shoot a humming bird in my back garden we don't seem to get them in the UK

i am going to try my best.... i also want to try the one where you tape up all the holes on the feeder except the one you want him to eat from.. this way he will be where i want him to be...hopefully..
