This newborn baby was not about to miss a thing! lol

I've never really had a 7 day old baby with eyes that wide open and focused on my camera.

Too many catchlights, the eyes creep me out a bit, and the whole creepy effect is enhanced by the dark and ambiguous background, and the relatively high contrast look of this.

Yes. I agree. I was set up for a sleepy newborn. Not a wide awake and cranky one. lol I should have killed a light and added a reflector. but I had two seconds to grab my camera off the side table, focus and shoot before baby flipped out again. If baby was a little more mellow I would have caught that for sure and tweaked my lighting a bit. :/

Check out this babies flexibility too! Here she is with her daddy. I was about to send them on her way when she finally passed out so I captured a couple family pictures.

Cute captures, but your shadows are way too deep. I think you need to add another light source to soften these up. You are going to get to a point where you try to bring up the shadows too much and and will add grain.

All I did was turn this B&W. I havn't messed with any shadows. I, however, like the contrasty images. I could lighten up the shadows, I considered it, but I think this looks like it should. The baby is snuggled in daddy's hands against his chest. I think the shadows look as they should. Which is funny, because typically I like super light and bright images for babies and kids. Thank you for your thoughts. I may lighten the shadows when I get some time to go through the images.

With all it's flaws acknowledged I really like this photo. The look on the face and the way she's holding her foot is adorable. Not sure if it's an elfling or a star baby but this is a great capture. I'm sure you'll learn from it, too.
