My wife in the snow

Hi All

Been lurking for a while, but not really posted anything other than the odd comment.

Finally got my 85L the other day so took it out on a dog walk in the snow with my wife to shoot a couple of portraits. Thought I'd post up a couple of shots.

Loving this lens so far - it's amazingly sharp at f1.2, if a bit of a pain to focus at times....

I think #2 is wonderful! I do think wb is cool in both but that is an easy fix! I love the flakes of snow in her hair on the first one but the expression could be better.

Love that second shot. Your processing is a little cool though. I have a love/hate relationship with the 85. It can be a stinker to focus sometimes, but when it does it is amazing. I generally don't shoot wide open on this lens, because the CA can get pretty ugly. By the way, your wife is beautiful. Are you shooting in raw?

Yeah, shooting raw. The cool processing was intentional. Perhaps overdone (oops).


Also, perhaps uncalibrated laptop screen not helping.

Sadly home office became baby room and PC became laptop about 3 months ago

She is very lovely and you captured her very well, I especially like #2 as it has a real look of innocence.

#2 is very cinematic. It could be a still from Fargo or A Simple Plan - there's a whole genre of "noir in the snow" films that this would fit in to beautifully.

Laptop screens are the absolute worst for editing... you should consider a decent display to attached to the laptop. It would give you much better results. These shots are overly cool...

No argument there. It's also frustratingly small.

I think I'm going to have to wait till we move hous in a couple of years tho - there's no room for it at the moment sadly

That's not a bad idea! Though I think the model might switch agencies if I try that

Maybe I can convince her that no-one else wants a model in their 30's..

Even though my contracted model is past her theoretical sell by date she's still good for challenging photoshop projects (If she reads this I'm history!); yours appears to have loads of shelf life left. :lmao:

She won't switch agencies, but if you have too much Life insurance, there might be an estate sale of camera equipment soon after that
