Is anyone here a member of NAPP? I'm interested in the deals and money off gear you can get by being a member.

Unless you are a professional, its probably going to be more fluff and less actual stuff you would take advantage of. Just my opinion.

I've been a member for many, many years. There are some advantages that largely help professional shooters, for example it can offer you faster turnaround times on camera repairs, etc. There are some discounts available for gear and insurance but the annual membership is expensive and unless you're planning to buy a lot of gear on an annual basis the savings won't justify the membership dues. If you're a newspaper or magazine shooter (staff or freelance) the monthly photo competitions can be good for your career, especially if you do well in the annual rankings, but you if you're not shooting a lot of photojournalism it can be hard to rank high as your will be limited in what categories you can submit images to. In addition, they will only accept images that were published (asking for the clip on CD or through a web link), which, again, can make it difficult for part-time shooters.

The monthly magazine is a good read though and the annual Best Of edition is worth keeping on the shelf, I think.

I'm a long time NAPP member. The membership fee here in the US is just $99 for a year. Though you can't pay monthly, that's only $8.25 a month. The Photoshop tutorial site Lynda.com is $25 a month or $250 a year.

PM me if you have any more questions.

Here is my referral link: http://www.photoshopuser.com/?aid=luhgxq In the upper right corner is a tab to a list of the Benefits NAPP members get. If you use my referrral link to join, my membership is extended by 2 months.

You don't have to be a pro to have savings equal to or greater than the yearly membership fee.

For your $99 you get accesss to the members web site, help desk, forums where many certified Photoshop experts give advice, and 100's of tutorials.

You get 8 issues a year of Photoshop User magazine, that also has a large section devoted to Lightroom articles. It has regular sections on image presentation, and legal issues.

NAPP members get discounts on hardware, software, travel, lodging, car rentals, lens rentals, it's an impressive list.

As an example, NAPP members get free regular UPS shipping on everything we buy from B&H Photo Video. Last year I saved over $500 just in shipping charges from B&H. I have mentioned several times here at TPF that as a NAPP member I don't have to pay the shipping charges on 9 foot long rolls of seamless background paper.
NAPP members get a 15% discount on Adobe products.
