i need to buy the smallest bag possible that can fit a canon 40d with 24-70L lens attached and a speedlite 580 ex too, feedback much appreciated thanks everyone

Your best bet is to go to a local shop and see what they have. Keep in mind you will eventually need space to carry additional accesorries. Batteries, Memory cards, diffusers, bouncers, 2nd lens, etc. So give yourself some room to grow. I have a Kata Holster H-12 when I just carry my 40D and 24-105 f/4 L IS. The flash is attached to a loop in a seperate pouch. check Tamrac and Lowepro to see what they have.

I can see you NEED MUCH HELP. Go to a camera store and try some out.

How about just throwing the camera on your shoulder and a small pouch on the waist for misc stuff including flash, batteries, and media. Done it several times.

trade in your 40D for one of these.
