Photos OK to edit
so i have pentax k10 and i need a lens to start with, im new to this stuff

More info needed :)

First up what kind of stuff do you want to take pictures of - what kind of shots, situations, ideas, subjects.

Secondly how much do you have - even if its just a ballpark figure - to invest in this.

The two bits of key info give us an idea of what you have to work with and the more info you can give the better we can reply with suggestions suitable for your personal situation.

i have three they dont fit, i got them from some film cameras, i dont think my parents would spend more then $300

Do a google search to see what older (35mm film) pentax lenses will fit your new dslr. I have seen 50mm 1.7 lenses on ebay for $20. I imagine it would be manual focus only, but it would be a great sharp lens for almost no cost.

My second recommendation (and I don't know much about pentax dslr, I have (2) old pentax film cameras) would be a used Tamron 17-55 f/2.8 zoom for about $300-$350. I think they exist. I know they're highly recommended for Nikon's. I have a Tamron 28-75 for my Nikon.

Last I recommend a cheaper "kit" lens like comes on that camera in a body / lens kit combo. It's probably in your price range too.

You could actually get the kit lens and a 50mm old school lens on your budget.

I saw another one of your posts, that you have 2 old pentax cameras. So the old pentax lenses will not fit?

no and my dad found another old canon film camera and its lens won't fit either :(

Sad that the old pentax lenses will not fit. Check into getting the lens that comes with that body as a kit.

Old pentax K, M, and A's manual focus do fit with auto stop down.

Old pentax/asahi/takumar M42 lenses also fit with an adapter but no auto stop down.

(I collect both styles of lenses)

Old Pentax KAF mount F's, F's, and FA's (80s Autofocus) fit without an adapter.

DA lenses of course will fit too... but not on film cameras.

My observation, most new photographers get frustrated rather quickly with manual lenses on DSLRs simply because they see how easy the photog next to them has it with AF lenses.

If you are new to photography and on a tight budget, I would just recommend getting the kit lenses to start out with. They aren't "that" bad to start and you can learn lots with them. Once you advance, you'll know exactly what you want; maybe higher speed zooms, maybe a super zoom with lots of range, maybe nice set of primes, or maybe a collection of vintage manuals. You won't know until you get some experience and enjoy some.

One more thing...

The latest version of the kit lenses are now weather resistant just like the K10D body.

Yeah, you can get these on e-bay for really cheap, just make sure it says WR (weather resistant).

I actually love my kit lens I use it a lot! (I do not like my 50-200 though...)

Well his other post says he has a K1000 and a Super ME. I have the same two with an "A" 50mm and an "M" 50mm.
