Photos NOT OK to edit
So..... I am doing my first cake smash session this sunday and i need help!! Im super nervous! lol.. I dont have any back drops right now, so i was wanting some opinions on doing it outside? Also, how do you get a pretty water mark? All i use is a text on my photoscape...

You want a watermark that is a vector graphic, and not a raster graphic.........................................................................

Vector graphics scale without pixilating, raster graphics don't............................................................................................

Inkscape is an open source (free) vector graphics application............................................................................................

here is my recent cake smash....

these were shot in my kitchen, on a $5 fabric backdrop with a SB-600 fired into. Another off camera SB-600 was used for key lighting.

Outdoors would be difficult, but do able. Make sure you have enough helpers on hand to keep the baby corralled.

Outside would be a great place to do a cake smash. Put the kid on the ground in the grass, set the cake in front of him/her, and let them go at it. Find a place with some space behind the kid and blur out the bg... I may do this in two weeks... Why not try something different. Good Luck!

Oh... And forget a watermark... They take away from the image. If you are afraid that the client is going to take the image from the web and print it just keep the res down to 72 and make the image no larger than 500pix on the long side. They won't be printing that with any quality.

Here are the two I've done..

oh and both kids did NOT want to touch the cake at all... We had to hid those gerber puff thingys in one and cherios in the other....

If you have the equipment/skill a cheap black background is the jersy knit sheets. A set at Wal-Mart is like $24. Bouncing the flash from above and behind me makes it good and solid. And you can just bump up your black and contrast a little in PP to make it really good.

Just get a small roll of seamless the 53" is cheap and plenty big for a cake smash. You should be able to pick up a roll locally. My local shop sells rolls of Savage seamless 53" for 35.00 and 107" for 50.00. Cut it off and throw that part away when your done.
