Need some website C&C please!

I could only spend about 3 seconds on your website because the music.
No music! and if you MUST have music, there needs to be a clear view on how to mute it. I could not find it on y our site so I had to close it before I even got to look at the photos

It is the music note in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. When you click on it the music stops. Sorry you didn't like the music.

I don't get it, of the most successful photographers in my area , they all seem to have music playing on their websites. Not saying that music is tied to their success or anything, but that well known artist/photographers tend to lean towards the music. My target audience is 18-45. There is a dislike on this forum for music that I don't understand.

Think about what you normally do while you are on the computer?
I listen to music, or if I'm at work, I don't want a music blasting on the website I'm browsing while I'm "working"
Music is actually disliked by more people then liked but it seems to be the trend right now to use it...

I see your point, but where do these stats come from about people not liking music on a website? (Aside from this forum) If it was that disliked, it would have never become a trend in the first place. Right? Something was a driving factor in it becoming a trend, and it wasn't from people repeatedly disliking the music being played on websites. I think it is a generational trend, and the younger 18-45 seem to like it more so than the older crowd. That being said, not to many people 45 and older are screaming to get their pictures taken either.

I mean, not being able to stay on a website for 3 seconds due to music playing is kind of extreme. There may be some deeper issues there. haha kidding! Do you turn and walk out of Walmart just because they are not playing good or your kind music? Of course not.

When 70% of the photography websites I view are playing music, 90% of those by heavily booked photographers, it's just hard for me to believe that there is that much hate towards music on a website by people. I am curious to the age demographics of this website. No offense, but just curious to see if there is a trend in comment types and age.

then keep the music if you think it benefits your site....
Just saying if I was looking for a photog, I'd have to close your page out of my browser before I even got to look for you and your photography abilities.

Any site that plays music for me is an instant "x out". Think of this....if you are at a computer, it is capable of playing music. If someone chooses to listen to music at thier computer, they have that option. So if someone is browsing the web, listening to music, they don't want to hear your music. Also, most people browse the internet at work, and don't want to hear music while doing so.

Just go to a website development forum and ask, its a huge no-no to have a site play music.

If you're going to insist on using music on your site, make it OFF by default. Me personally, when I hear music I leave...never to return again. Think about your potential clients that feel the same way.

Another vote for using FTML on Facebook Fan pages. I used that to try and make my website and Facebook the same. :)

Honestly, and no offense to you what so ever, but if there is a potential client who is that particular about something like music, then I may not want them as a client in the first place. Nothing would be good enough for them. They would only focus on the bad and miss all the good that is right in front of them. I think it's sad that so many things in life are missed because we get focused on the little things that don't matter, instead of looking at the big picture. Thank you all very much for your advice! It means a lot to me. I have learned a lot today. Some good and some disheartening. I definitely see what needs to be done as far as my Facebook page is concerned. As for the website, I am up in the air on the music. You all are great!

Don't look now but you didn't post in the right forum section , and your subject has nothing to do with photography. ;)

What's being discussed in the thread is marketing, promotion, and SEO.

Sorry to break the forum posting code. Didn't know there were rules in which you post by. My apologies. Actually, I was wanting C&C on not just the layout but the photgraphs as well, so to get down to the nitty gritty, it is about photography. Heck, it's a photography website, so that is about photography right? Thanks for the heads up! I am starting to see some personality trends on this forum. LOL The Type A is strong, which is unusual. Photography is suppose to be art, which typically calls for a type B, but I guess the technical aspect of the camera draws in the A crowd. haha Again, thanks to everyone for their advice! I think I may read the TPF manual before I post again. Don't want to get anyone bent out of shape. haha Happy New Year!
