new at photography

Im new at photography this is my first picture with my nikon D200 and would like some opinions on it thanks

Good to see someone else using the D200. Really have to watch the highlights with this camera as they will blow out with nothing to recover in post.

The composition has the one bird in the center so the left side of the image is not adding anything. The second bird has the head blocked and it is the animal tail shot. The birds seem a bit dark, did you dial in any exposure compensation?

I know you don't want to go too high with the ISO on this camera, but I think you need a bit higher shutter speed for the focal length and birds can twitch their heads a lot so might try using ISO 400. Shoot in RAW as the current noise reduction software options do much better than what this camera does in-camera. With birds I would also be in AF-C and not AF-S.

Thanks trying to get use to the controls on this thing will try raising shutter speed and iso next time

Usually in a photo you want the percentage of "interesting" stuff to be higher than the "other" stuff. Another way of saying crop way down on the birds (interesting) and lose the branches "other".
