New camera help

I have a budget of $600 to get a new digital camera. I want the best one i can get, but i want it to look professional sort of too. Anyway, If you have any ideas please tell me!

You are just on the edge of getting/affording a DSLR. I would highly suggest getting a DSLR over a non-SLR type camera. Look at the Canon Rebel XTi, the Nikon D40 the Sony Alpha or the Pentax K100D.

Would you consider a used camera? You could certainly get more camera for your money.
