New Canon 5D with Video announced

Well there's only one line that does. It started with the XL series which was their digital version of the Hi8 L1 and L2 systems also with interchangeable lenses. I had an XL1 for a little while. I never became aware that their SLR lenses could be fit to an XL body. Is there a link or something?

The Canon XL H1 will accept the EF adapter which will accept the entire EOS line of still camera lenses.
There are two versions of this camera, one is $6,000.00 the other is $8,000.00

Right now actually. You can display them in-line with the GIF animation format like this: http://thephotoforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=138071 though mine is set to 2fps or via links. There are sites that do embedded youtubes but this site hasn't seen fit to incorporate that yet. I think embedded youtubes are really only good for reviews and information clips myself.

Not sure if you know this Mike, but the nicer (more professional like) Canon video cameras will already accept Canon lenses. I think all it takes is an adapter.

I really don't think that the 5D II will replace those video cameras for pros...but I'd like to know how they compare.

I have a Sony HD cam corder with a 100GIG hard drive built-in... and that hard drive fills up pretty quick. I cannot even begin to see the usefulness of 100 RAW files and 4 min seconds of video would be when it filled up my 16g card.

They'd better start making way bigger media cards if this trend continues!

Those aren't pro cameras. The dSLR takes WAY WAY better video than my little prosumer XL1 could even dream about. Same is true of the XL2. The XL-H1 has the dSLR beat tho.

Well this dSLR records at approximately 300MB a minute so 3gig would be 10min and 16gig card would hold pretty close to an hour. Not too shabby really.

True but only in divisions of time due to the time cap on the video (something like 12 mins from memory - and of course dependent on its format of quality). For me though that is enough - most things in nature happen far quicker than 12 mins

But typical takes are 10sec. ~ 3min. on the long side. Watch TV or any movie and see if you see any single take longer than 1min. that isn't CG. Those are edited down from longer segments but not that much longer.

12min. is mega-long dude.

Depends on the production of course and things are changing rapidly in the past 3 years (which is why I changed my post). It used to be that such productions would be all film but I think the new (last 1 or 2 years) digitals have producers exercising a little more bravery.

Some guys tacked a 1200/5.6 to one of the XL series cameras, along with a teleconverter. The range on that thing was mind bending.
