New direction

Oki, ive come to a conclusion, and for some, strange, diluded reason, thought you guys would wanna hear.

After much deliberation, I have decided to become my own boss.

Im 16, why should I bother with a normal job, when I have a chance at doing the freelance thing? well...I think im gonna do it.
After a long chat with Hobbes (Realise now why he makes such a great Dad role) and a few inspirational comments from MD (althought he didnt know) and alot of support from you all, Im gonna do it.

Im gonna start writing to local papers, and ask about their Rules into free lance photography.
Im then gonna buy a laptop, so that if im getting a taxi, I can get my images ready before I get home, thus beating everyone because I can email them off the moment im inside.
Im gonna try for this, im gonna upgrade all my equipment every now and then, and Im gonna get a *Just saturday* job at Jessops, to pull in cash, and give me some training, along with a nice 20% discount (hopefully)

Well, I guess thats my mini speach done, Hope you all enjoyd it, I know im psyched.


(P.s., if theres anyone selling a Laptop, know where I can get a nice good one, or a 20D, please let me know )

I'd suggest you get yourself a job with a free lance company first. You'll get paid and learn about if from the inside. Then take your experiences and use them to your advantage.

If you are really set on starting up on your own, sit down and work it all out. Get every bit of information you can and sit down with your mum and dad one night and "sell" it to them. Then ask one or both to go along to somewhere that helps small business' get off the ground.

Good luck, you'll need it in such a competitive market. I hope you succeed.

There are companys such as that? Id rather get a job at a freelance place.

My job wont be a company, simply me emailing newspapers

There are huge companies who have photographers they send out to events and celebs houses etc. They take the photos after they've been shot, keep a record of them and sell them to the press.
That's the big business, celeb hunting side of it at least.

i am my own boss... it is hard to gather the discipline to do this some times but when you do it you are rewarded.
you can do this and i applaud you
my only suggestion is that you need to get a business liscense -- just because you never know when some one will ask you to do a wedding or senior port.

Personally I hated my freelance experience. Running after clients and negotiating prices, dealing with the client's fruitiness (and there is a TON of it, believe me) and then all the tax stuff was too much for me. I'm a lot happier working full time for a company. But I am in a slightly different field than photography, so I guess it's different
