This shot if fairly typical of a "first shot". Not meaning to to discourage you, but it really doesn't do anything for me.

Fair enough, but first, explain to us what your thought process was with this image. Why did you frame it this way, why did you you use the aperutre and SS you did, and what message should I, the viewer get from it?

Since every image is the different and you are acknowledging it is a snapshot.. what would the purpose of CC be?
It's like getting in a car, and pushing down on the accelerator for 30 seconds and then asking how good of a driver you are.
Shoot something with some intent and purpose and then try again maybe.

they are right after you are here for a while and take more pictures you will see it is a snapshot there was no setup of any lighting you used to make this happen no backdrop no settings to be commented on it is a snapshot no more than a picture with a basic P&S keep shooting and fool with the camera setting and get flash and different lightings or outdoors then look for C&C....lot of difference in a snapshot and a photograph......

Quite decent! looks good as a very-near square. I might try making it a PERFECT square though, just to see if it looks any different. Good rendering of the candle and flame; this type of exposure is challenging for digital SLRs...the highlight (flame) usually will burn out if the exposure is too long, but in this case, I think the exposure is excellent-not too long, not too brief. One thing that might have really made this an amazing shot would be to have seen a bit of his hand holding the candle...somehow I can sense that he *is* holding that candle...but I cannot literally *see* that... Still, pretty good shot. Definitely not a throw-away type shot, but instead, one that actually "works!. Good for you!

@derrel : Thanks for the feedback,wanted to bokeh out the face but couldn't happen with the kit lens :/
