New Focusing Screen

I just installed this new focus screen in my K20D. It's an easy mod and I'm definitely liking it! Seems quicker to acquire horizontal when framing a quick shot. I'm thinking it will be an aid for composition, as well.

Have you noticed any difference in metering accuracy? Does this one have a matte surface or any other aid to manual focusing?

It appears to be just like the stock matte fresnel screen, but with the lines added, and therefore focus and metering would appear to be the same. To anyone thinking of changing out your screen: these things scratch easier than a stick of butter, so beware!

Oh wow, I just found this after-market split-prism laser matte screen- alas, a bit pricey... :scratch:

I've got a split-prism focus screen in my K10 that I bought for $20. I'd recommend one of these to anyone out there shooting any brand; it's so useful. One downside is that it essentially disables spot metering at smaller apertures, but I only ever use center weight anyway.

I have an ME super that is mechanically in very good working order, but I need a new focus screen. I recall reading somewhere that it wasn't an easy undertaking and more involved than just popping it out and popping in another. Any pentaxians know anything about that?

Not sure about you ME but, the MX is super easy to change out. The screen holder should have a little tab on it. All you do is press the tab and drop the holder down. Then slip in the other screen. The only reason it wouldnt work is, if it is the wrong size. If your doesnt have the quick change then yes it is a pain. If you arent mechanically inclined take it to a shop.

All of the modern Pentax cameras make it very easy to swap them out. (I love that they do that.) But if I remember correctly, the ME super has the focus screen built solidly into the body, just like on my K1000.

Well the ME was the body before my MX if I remember right. I got it too many moons ago to recelect.

I was focusing my MX once and noticed debris in the viewfinder. Then I noticed that the debris was moving! It had somehow become infested with tiny bugs...
