What's new

New look

I also like this new font a lot. It's friendly on the eyes (at least mine). :) I don't mind giving it a day or two to get used to; especially knowing our great tech guys are reading along and working out little kinks as we go. If I can't cope with it I'll just switch back to the default.

Oh, and I just HAVE to tell ekool that his new avatar is cracking me up. I think it's how the new skin made a bunch of people feel when they first saw it! ;)

You guys got cajones working on a live site like this lol!! You don't create a test site to get it all working right first and then copy it over?!
it is actually kind of funny in a amusing way. Reading through of people turning their monitors down and dimming them...well so much for the monitor calibration....hope they dont edit at that setting.

I was curious about this. Do people dim the monitors when they visit google.com or yahoo.com? They are even brighter than this site?

What Snerd said, didn't you guys try this out first? It isn't usable, I'm quite serious, it just isn't. I just switched it to Red but it's not what I was getting before, now it's too small to read and keeps some of the new look and some of what we had before. With yet another font.

It's a mess. I seriously cannot use it like this.

Well when you use google or yahoo you're looking for something else and then you move on to that site. A discussion forum you are typically on the same site for a significant amount of time and doing a lot of reading.

Yes, we have been testing it, but there are always issues that come out when hundreds test it.

Try selecting the "Red v1" style again. It should look exactly the way it did before.

Aw, that little forum shortcut button is gone :(

This new skin does seem a bit brighter because, as someone mentioned, there's not as much separation between messages as there was before. And I miss the shortcut button. But I prefer the font and the blue, and I like the dropdown menus.

I'm calling this one a tie.

Which shortcut button are you referring to?

Well, yer bathroom is prob'ly as bright as you can stand it too, but you don't spend a lot of time in there. When you go to your office/livingroom/wherever you relax and spend more time, that room is much less bright than your bathroom. Same with Google - I go there, do my business quick and get out. Google's brightness is not an issue. All the websites and forums I spend the majority of my time... they aren't anything like Google.

In your defense though, as a webmaster, I want to say to the one or 3 people who seem to think the priority here is what search engines thing about the site, you couldn't be further from the truth. I have no doubt the admins and techs here are working hard to make their members happy and comfortable so they keep posting content. But that content is useless unless it can be shared with all the other photographers out there in the ether. That is Google's and other search engines' job. If you don't follow certain guidelines, then you pay a penalty - fewer indexed pages, fewer visitors, fewer of everything this website has to offer. It's not a private club.

We will be making more changes tomorrow. Slowly but surely we'll get it there ;)

It was the quick navigation button: top right, just under the search box, are three little lines. Click that and a pop-up box appeared with all the forum links. I didn't even notice it for several weeks after the change, but once I did, I liked it.

I just switched back to the red skin and it does look exactly like it was. I think I'll go back to the blue one, though. But if it's possible, it would be nice to have the thicker bars between messages. It really helps to break things up and make them easier to distinguish and read. I also think it's one of the things that affects our perception of the brightness.

Do a refresh. Next to the little magnifying glass icon in the navigation area now there is a new icon, that should bring up the quick nav menu. Is this what you were talking about?

Yes, the navigation menu is the funny-looking icon to the left of the search icon at the top. Not sure what you would call that icon lol!

Yes, that's it! Awesome :)

If it were me I'd switch everything to the old school bulletin board style.

Just for funsies.
