Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Hey, I don't even know the basics to photography but recently i've been thinking about starting it as a hobby.

Can anyone tell me the basics or give me a link to where I could learn?

Here is one photo I took tell me what you think, and what I need to improve on.. http://i35.tinypic.com/348lo4z.jpg

Welcome to the forum.

Your best bet is to head to your local library; (somewhere around 722 if I remember correctly). Photography theory is photography theory, so even if all they have are older books discussing film cameras, the exposure guidelines, composition suggestions, etc are still valid. There are also literally tens of thousands of tutorials on-line; try searching topics such as "Basic photography tutorial" or "Exposure tutorial".

With respect to the image you linked to, it shows a lot of noise/grain, has excessive contrast and is over-exposed. That aside, it does have a certain 'look' to it, so perhaps you could explain what you wanted to achieve with this image.

This is a pretty good basic intro skimming most of the important areas:

Tirediron's suggestion to check the library is probably your best option. However, no books are going to totally replace holding a camera in your hand and trying to make a great photograph. If I were you, I'd do both... a lot.

I'll throw in my 2 cents here, I am a beginning photographer myself, and what has helped me more than anything else (aside from participating in the great mentor program here) is just taking lots and LOTS of pictures, along with reading everything photography related that you can get your hands on.

I did just as BTilson suggested. I had never owned a camera before these boards. Bought mine almost 2 weeks ago and have taken about 300 pictures so far. I am finding reading the critques on the boards help along with other reading material. I love my new found hobby.

Here you will find all that you really need to understand photography concepts such as depth of field, f-stops, shutter speed, ISO and much more, the correct settings you have to do to your camera for every situation, what to look for when buying a new camera, maintenance and for those interested the last section is about turning Pro: studio and wedding photography.

Best of luck!
